“My scholarship takes the weight off my shoulders”

Eilidh Prise is studying mathematics. She is also competing at the highest level in a sport that demands mastery of not one but five events: Modern Pentathlon.

Student Eilidh Prise cross country running in front of a view of Bath.

Taking on such a demanding degree, alongside a gruelling training and competitive programme, shows that Eilidh is an extraordinarily motivated individual. But one thing that has taken the weight off her shoulders. is a scholarship, donated by alumnus Bill Whiteley.

“I have to travel a lot with my sport, which can be expensive. Ultimately I want to make the Olympic selection and compete at Tokyo in 2020, and it has given me the best possible chance of doing this.”

Good luck Eilidh – we’re looking forward to cheering you on in three years’ time!

The University of Bath was a pioneer of sports scholarships in the UK back in the 1970s. Since that time, we have welcomed more than 100 sports scholars to the University, who, like Eilidh, have been generously supported by our alumni and friends.
