Our industry partners help us to look further
We are delighted that Santander Universities has signed a new three-year partnership agreement with the University of Bath.
The agreement represents almost £500,000 in support for areas including sports, arts and international student scholarships, postgraduate international research exchange, Team Bath Racing, and internships with local SMEs.
Over 100 staff, students, alumni and local businesses gathered at a reception in The Edge to mark the signing of this new agreement and celebrate more than 15 years of Santander’s support for the University.
Representing Santander was Manroop Khela, Chief Operating Officer of Santander UK, Retail & Business Banking, who signed the agreement with our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dame Glynis Breakwell.

“My scholarship helped me massively with paying for my training and competition costs”
Rachel Smith (BSc Sports Performance 2016), Santander Sports Scholar
When you’re an elite athlete, balancing training and studying is tough, and Rachel Smith has been one of our most dedicated. She captained the first British Rhythmic Gymnastics team ever to compete at an Olympic Games.
Four years later, Rachel graduated from the University with a first class degree. She was supported throughout her studies by a Santander sports scholarship.
“My scholarship helped me massively with paying for my training and competition costs,” she say. “Without this money I would have really struggled.”
Supporting the University for fifteen years
Kirsten Buckley, Head of Corporate Partnerships at the University, said: “We are delighted that Santander continues to support so many activities, from student societies and scholarships to postgraduate research. Santander Universities leads the way globally in its philanthropic support for higher education, and we are hugely grateful for its investment in Bath over the last 15 years.”
Santander Universities’ support for the University of Bath began in 2001. We signed our first partnership agreement in 2007, becoming Santander’s second formal university partner in the UK (after the University of Oxford).
By 2015-16, Santander’s support for the University had exceeded £1.5 million.
Santander is the biggest corporate supporter of higher education globally, funding more than 1,000 institutions around the world. In 2015, it donated nearly $200 million to higher education through Santander Universities.
